If someone had told me that my self-challenge to write a song using the word bangmaid* would someday give my status as a songwriter more credibility, I’d have thought they were being very silly. But, I found out that my “bangmaid banger” made it into the semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition! In the “unpublished” category, no less! 🎉

Sometimes the New Year is a celebration of what has taken place and sometimes folks are reflecting on what has been a hard year. Maybe they’re looking forward to seeing the year end, hopeful that turning over the calendar page to January 1st will bring fresh, new opportunities for happiness.

Her second album earned her three Music PEI nominations, including Songwriter of the Year. She has been working with producer, multi-instrumentalist, and famed songwriter Nathan Wiley to record her third record, Subtle Motions. The first single from the album has just been released on November 8th. The new single, Free (I Remember) was recorded at The Nest Recording Studio, and is a “first peek” opportunity to check out her new album.

Nikkie is releasing a new album soon. Produced by Nathan Wiley, Subtle Motions is an exploration of the complexities of relationships and of life. Fans of her previous albums, When You Find It… (2005) and Blue Roses (2000) will find a more adventurous sound in Subtle Motions. This album takes the listener on a journey. It opens with a song reflecting the end of an unhealthy situation, proceeds with the unfolding of new feelings (with all of the lovely longings involved), it then takes you through the crushing twins of heartache and grief.
