International Songwriting Competition semi-finals: two songs!

Sometimes it pays to challenge yourself, to put yourself out there. Give yourself credit for taking a risk, no matter how it goes. ⁣

If someone had told me that my self-challenge to write a song using the word bangmaid* would someday give my status as a songwriter more credibility, I’d have thought they were being very silly. But, I found out that my “bangmaid banger” made it into the semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition! In the “unpublished” category, no less! 🎉⁣

(*Bangmaid: 50s-ish housewife: 24/7housekeeper, live-in nanny, with no influence on family decisions, no rights, and certainly no bodily autonomy.)⁣

(Note: this very tongue-in-cheek song is actually called “Never Wanted to Be Tame.”)⁣

And, it wasn’t alone! I had TWO songs make it into the semi-finals! Dark Places made it through in the “folk/singer-songwriter” category. (We had to hold the fall release back, but I’m dying for y’all to hear the official recording of this song. It’s my favourite thing. 💘)⁣

Congrats to fellow semi-finalists, too! Excited to see fellow islanders on the list from the band Soul Filter (including my cousin Karen 💕) with the hot track they wrote with some sweet pals!

⁣Gang, I’m so incredibly proud. Thanks for listening to the songs I’ve been sharing. I feel like I can do anything with you cats in my corner. 💋⁣
